From leading a software company and running marathons to learning tango and being the President of the Indo-Japan Business Council, Siddharth Deshmukh shares life lessons from these diverse experiences.

Life is a grand adventure, isn’t it? I’ve found myself leading a software company, running marathons, learning the tango, and serving as President of the Indo-Japan Business Council (IJBC). These aren't challenges or roles that have been imposed on me. I've embraced them as I desired at various stages of life. And, oh boy, what a ride it’s been! Here’s what I’ve picked up along the way.

Running a software company feels like being in the eye of a tech tornado. Everything’s changing, and you’ve got to either keep up or get swept away. Adaptability isn’t just a buzzword here – it’s survival. Picture trying to catch a cat – unpredictable but oh-so-worth it. You’ve got to have a vision, sure, but it’s the execution where the real magic happens. It’s like building a sandcastle – you need a plan, patience, and a willingness to get your hands dirty. And let’s not forget the team. Empowering your people and trusting their skills can lead to some truly amazing results. Imagine being the coach of a sports team – everyone has their role, and together, you score big.

Marathons, now they’re a different beast. It’s not just about running; it’s about pushing your limits and discovering what you’re really made of. You don’t just wake up one day and run a marathon. It takes months of consistent training. Some days are tough, and you just don’t feel like it. But showing up anyway? That’s where the magic happens. It’s like brushing your teeth – not always fun, but necessary. There’s a point in every marathon where you hit a wall. Everything hurts, and you just want to stop. Pushing through that wall builds resilience, both on the track and in life. It’s life’s way of saying, “Hang in there, buddy.” Running also gives you time to think, clear your mind, and find some peace. It’s like a moving meditation, helping you sort out the chaos in your head and find clarity.

Learning tango has been a delightful adventure, filled with rhythm, elegance, and a few missteps along the way. Tango is all about connection. It’s a silent conversation through movement, teaching you to understand and empathize with your partner. Imagine it like a dance-off where both partners have to be in sync to avoid stepping on each other’s toes. You’re not going to master tango overnight. It takes practice and patience, reminding you that good things take time. Like making a fine wine – it gets better with age. Tango is also a dance of balance, much like any relationship. It’s about leading and following, finding harmony with your partner. Think of it as a balancing act, but way more fun.

As the President of the Indo-Japan Business Council, I’ve had the joy of connecting two vibrant cultures. Understanding and respecting cultural differences is crucial. It’s like being a guest in someone’s home – you follow their rules, learn their customs, and appreciate their way of life. Building a network of trusted contacts is invaluable. Relationships are the backbone of success. It’s like having a little black book filled with people who have your back. Leading an international council requires a big-picture vision and attention to detail. It’s like putting together a giant puzzle – every piece matters.

So there you have it. Leading a software company, running marathons, learning tango, and being IJBC President – each role has added a unique flavor to my life. From tech innovations to running trails, dance floors to international meetings, the lessons are endless. The common thread? Passion and a love for learning. No matter what you’re juggling, embrace it with enthusiasm and an open heart. Life is a crazy, beautiful dance – dive in and enjoy every step.
