"Someday"

Someday is the king of procrastination, offering a comforting excuse to delay action. But what if the perfect time you’re waiting for doesn’t exist? The truth is, Someday never comes—unless you create it. Ready to stop waiting?

Ah, “Someday.” We all know it. That mythical day when everything will finally fall into place. When we’ll start that new project, take that dream trip, or maybe just tackle the mess that is our email inbox. Someday feels like a great escape, the time when all our hopes, dreams, and grand plans will magically come to life. But here’s the catch: Someday is a master illusionist.

We’ve all said it: “I’ll do it someday.” Whether it’s learning to play the guitar, picking up a new hobby, or making that bold career move. It’s convenient—a way of telling ourselves we’ll get to it… eventually. But in reality, Someday is the king of procrastination, offering a comfortable excuse to delay action.

Let’s be honest. Someday is a comforting lie, something we cling to in order to feel better about putting things off. It’s a dream that gets endlessly postponed, disguised as a future plan we’ll tackle “when the time is right.”

But how often do we stop and ask: When exactly is the right time? Here’s the hard truth: it doesn’t exist. Life is messy, unpredictable, and rarely perfect. Waiting for ideal conditions? You’ll be waiting forever. Someday isn’t a date circled on a calendar—it’s just a clever fantasy we create. In our heads, we picture a future version of ourselves that’s more capable, more confident, more ready to take the leap. But newsflash: Future You is still You, just a little older.

So, what’s the alternative? Start now.

Yes, I know. We all have busy lives. Work, obligations, meetings, and oh, Netflix. But what if we took just one small step today instead of pushing things off to the elusive “someday”? That step doesn’t have to be grand. It can be as simple as writing the first line of that book you’ve been dreaming about, or spending 10 minutes on a skill you’ve wanted to master. Tiny actions build momentum.

The magic happens when we begin, even in the smallest way. You don’t need to know all the answers, or have everything mapped out perfectly. By taking action today, you’re already beating the biggest hurdle: inertia. Someday doesn’t happen unless you create it.

But there’s something else at play here. We all love our comfort zones. They’re cozy, predictable, and give us a sense of control, much like slipping into your favorite pair of sweatpants. Yet, while comfort zones feel safe, they’re also where dreams quietly fade away.

Nothing amazing ever happens in the comfort zone.

To break free from the “Someday” trap, we need to shake things up a bit. We need to embrace discomfort, take risks, and accept the possibility of failure. Sounds scary? Sure, but that’s where the real excitement and growth are found.

Most of life’s great adventures—personal growth, new opportunities, memorable experiences—happen when we step outside that safe bubble and embrace the unknown.

So here’s my challenge—for both you and me. Pick one thing you’ve been saving for “someday” and do it today. Not tomorrow, not next week—today. It doesn’t have to be big, just a small step. Write that first sentence, book that ticket, send that email you’ve been putting off. Stop waiting for perfect conditions and make your own “someday” happen.

Because the truth is, there’s no magical future version of yourself who’s going to feel more ready than you do now. The only way forward is to start, right where you are. So, what will your “someday” be?
